PANJIM: The All India Petrol Dealers’ Association (AIPDA) on Monday announced a nationwide no-purchase agitation on July 5 which will be followed by a petrol pump strike on July 12. However, All Goa Petrol Dealers Association (AGPDA) is still undecided on the strike.
AIPDA is protesting the oil marketing companies’ failure to install a 100 per cent fully automated system at petrol pumps and dearth of transparency in the daily dynamic pricing mode and also in response to the government’s decision to revise the prices of petrol and diesel everyday.
Speaking to Herald, AGPDA, President, Paresh Joshi said, “The Goa petrol pump dealers are expected to meet to discuss the matter. We are still undecided on the strike as last week Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had assured us that he would speak to the oil companies along with us and had also asked me to submit information which I will submit on Tuesday.”
The new dynamic pricing system was tested in five cities of Chandigarh, Jamshedpur, Pondicherry, Udaipur and Vizag from May 1, before being implemented across the country. Now, petrol and diesel prices are revised daily and the step was taken to increase transparency in the pricing mechanism.
One of the main demands of the AIPDA is that the government ensure that dealers must be able to maintain their commission received after the sale of every litre of fuel despite a daily revision of prices.
