PANJIM: The State Road Safety Council meeting has decided to strictly enforce the drive on drunken driving.
In the meeting chaired by Transport Secretary Dr Tariq Thomas, a review of the Action Taken Reports by various stakeholder departments such as Transport, Traffic Police and PWD among others, were deliberated.

In the long list of key decisions taken at the meeting was strict enforcement on drunken driving together with State wide public awareness drives on the penalties to be imposed on the offender.
“Operationalise the Goa Causes and Analysis of Motor Vehicle Accidents Scheme by setting up the Road Engineering Committee and Onsite Inspection by Sub Committee as notified in the Gazette in July 2021. IEC materials to be prepared on the penalties for offenders driving without a licence, rash and negligent driving and other offences under the Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Act 2019,” said GOACAN’s Roland Martins, also a member on board.
Finalising annual budgetary allocation to meet the expenditure of road safety measures by stakeholder departments , erecting speed limit signages across the State in a time bound manner, immediate restoration of the Zebra Crossing at the KTC bus stand Panjim and public education drive on use of only ISI mark helmets by users of rent-a-bike services were also decided.
The meeting further discussed on sensitisation workshops at District level for Road Safety and Traffic Management Committees of all municipal councils on the provisions of the Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Act 2019 and the road safety measures to be undertaken keeping in mind senior citizens, persons with disabilities, pedestrians and cyclists among other road users.
