PANJIM: The government has amended the Tourism policy to increase the total number of shacks across the coastal stretch by 18.
Shacks at Dando Candolim beach stretch have been increased by 10 and at Calangute by 3. While shacks at Mandrem and Arambol have been increased by two, Betalbatim beach has been allotted just one additional shack.
The Goa Beach Shack Policy effective from 2013 will be in force till 2016, where 90 percent of the shacks will be allowed licences for three years. Also the shack policy has persisted with last year’s clause of only 10 beach beds per shack, a no discrimination clause between Indian and foreign customers and that all shacks had to strictly install CCTV cameras. The shacks would be allowed to be installed from September 15 until May 30.
According to the Shack policy, 60 percent of the total 350 shacks will be alloted to those with experience of seven years and above; 20 percent would be allotted to those with four to six years experience; 10 percent will be alloted to those with one to three years experience and 10 percent to be kept open for newcomers.
The shacks have to be of 18×18 meters, 12×18 meters and 18×8 meters dimensions and fees for the three year licences would be Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 for a season, compared to last season’s rate of Rs 20,000 per shack.
