OLD GOA: Urging the people to make eye donation a family tradition, ophtalmic assistant Suresh Naik said anybody can donate eyes except those afflicted with rabies, hepatitis B, tetanus and HIV.
Naik was speaking at a programme organised by the Chimbel Village Health Sanitation and Nutrition Committee (VHSNC) in association with the Directorate of Health Services and Betki PHC to celebrate eye donation fortnight and national nutrition week at Tremara Community Centre, Indira Nagar-Chimbel.
Speaking further, Naik said if anybody is willing to donate eyes, he or she has to get registered at the eye bank at GMC,
Bambolim. Extension educator Rauji Palni spoke on nutrition.
Various queries on eye donation procedure and other aspects were also answered by the team of health experts on the occasion.
Further information was also provided on how to register as a donor.
A recipe competition on nutrition was organised for the participants, where 18 women took part. Prizes were given to the first three best dishes presented at the contest.
Health officer Dr Celina Noronha and PHN sister Sugandha from Betki PHC, Dr Franklin, Dr M Vinod and extension educator Umesh Kholkar from DHS-Campal, staff of Chimbel sub health centre were also present.
