Strong winds, waves damage six shacks on Keri beach

Deck beds, electronic items besides other things destroyed; Third incident this season

Pernem: All six shacks erected on Keri beach were damaged after strong winds and waves entered the shacks on Wednesday night.
More than 3/4 of all the six shacks was washed away with the strong waves and structures of shacks were damaged due to strong winds. Water entered the shacks and damaged beach beds, electronic items besides other things.
Due to constant soil erosion, half of the shore was already under water because of which the shack owners had erected their shack partially inside the protection wall while remaining part was on the shore. However due to the sudden strong waves on Wednesday night 3/4 of the shacks was damaged.
“This is the third incident this season. Twice before Christmas a similar incident had occurred but the effect was not much but this time the effect was strong which damaged the entire structure of shacks. Not even half of the license money paid to the Government is recovered. This year business was already down however these natural calamities have add to our loss. It’s difficulty to make business of Rs 5k per day”, claimed a shack owner.
