SANGUEM: The students of government primary school at Bhinde Molcornem in the neighbourhood of Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar, are made to sit in classrooms with their umbrellas open to save themselves from rain water.
Incidentally, though the bad condition of the school premise was brought to the notice of the concerned Asstt. Dist. Educational Inspector (ADEI) and the higher ups by the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) members and the parents, the authorities failed in undertaking timely repair works subjecting the students to this suffering, since the school reopened last week.
Rajesh Gaonkar, former Panchayat member of Molcornem, bitterly decried the lethargic attitude of government officials and education department in getting timely repair of the school premises despite the issue being brought to their attention well in advance.
Gaonkar informed that the PTA members and the parents had also allegedly brought the issue of deteriorating condition of the school premises to his notice few months back. MLA Gaonkar had reportedly assured the parents that the repair work would be done before the commencement of the new academic year, but he failed and students are bearing the brunt.
PTA President Hari Naik informed that the PTA had highlighted the issue of precarious condition of the school premises to the ADEI Quepem but the authorities failed in getting the repair work done as of now.
Naik claimed that besides the broken roof tiles, the wooden rafter of the school premises are rendered weak and there is every possibility of the wooden rafters and roof tiles falling on the children during the class hours leading to injuries.
