According to Valpoi Police Inspector Sanjay Dalvi, the accident occurred at about 7.15 am when the bus (GA-04-T-2622) was proceeding from Bicholim to Valpoi. The bus driver lost control of the bus at a sharp turn at Nagve junction, before the bus rammed into the roadside tree, injuring 29 passengers.
Police further informed that majority among the injured passengers were teachers and students from Valpoi schools and surrounding areas. All the injured were rushed to Community Health Centre (CHC) Valpoi in 108 and CHC ambulance. Later in the afternoon, all the injured were discharged after medical treatment.
According to sources, a special team of five doctors of CHC examined the injured persons and after medical treatment all were discharged except for some six, who were kept for some time under observation.
Sources further informed that out of six passengers, four were discharged and two were referred to District Hospital Mapusa for treatment. The team of doctors included Dr Vinesh Gaonkar, Shyam Kanconkar, Vaibhav Gadgil, Sanjay Gaonkar and Videsh Jhalmi.
Sources informed that about 40 passengers were travelling in the bus when the accident took place. A few passengers who escaped unhurt went walking to the next bus stop to board another bus.
PI Dalvi informed that medical reports indicated that all passengers had sustained simple injures and added that further investigations are in progress.
