Sudin’s brother quizzed in water tank case

PANJIM: PWD Minister Ramkrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar’s brother Dilip Dhavalikar was quizzed in connection with the 2011 water tank scam, in which a case was recently registered against former PWD Minister Churchill Alemao.

Dilip, an Executive Engineer in the PWD, was interrogated by the Anti Corruption Branch (ACB). Along with him other PWD engineers were also called for questioning on Tuesday. Their statements in connection with the offence were recorded, a senior ACB officer said.
An officer said the former PWD Minister will be summoned once the interrogation of the officers ends.
ACB has registered a FIR against Alemao and PWD officials including the Principal Chief Engineer, Superintending Engineer, Chief Engineer, Executive Engineer, Assistant Engineer and Junior Engineer of Divisions III, IX and XX of PWD for violating basic norms during the tendering process for purchase of 6511 water tanks.
Water tanks costing cores of rupees were purchased without a cabinet decision being taken and overruling the government. The FIR says the exchequer suffered a loss of Rs 1.45 crore due to this.
