Goa recorded a strong 10.5% year-on-year growth in tourist arrivals during the first quarter of 2025, welcoming around 28.5 lakh visitors compared to 25.8 lakh in the same period last year. The rise has been attributed to a series of strategic efforts by the Goa Tourism Department, including enhanced international air connectivity—such as new direct flights from Kuwait and Abu Dhabi, along with focused global marketing campaigns and a push to promote tourism beyond the beaches.
From eco-tourism and heritage trails to wellness retreats, the department has diversified its offerings to attract a broader range of travellers. Its initiatives to integrate alternative accommodations and appeal to conscious travellers and digital nomads have also played a key role in sustaining the growth trend.
However, tourism officials flagged some uncertainty in advance bookings for the summer months due to seasonal travel shifts and ongoing regional geopolitical tensions. While April typically sees a lull after Easter, May is expected to gain from school holidays and a surge in domestic leisure travel.
To counter potential slowdowns, the tourism department is working closely with stakeholders across the hospitality, transport, and travel sectors to monitor trends and ensure timely interventions. With tourism contributing over 16% to Goa’s GDP, the government remains committed to positioning the state as a sustainable, year-round destination.
