PANJIM: After competing over the venue to host their individual events, the two mega electronic dance music (EDM) festivals are likely to clash over the dates for the third consecutive year.
In its respective applications to the Goa government seeking no objection certificates, organizers of Sunburn and Supersonic have submitted kick-starting the annual event on December 27.
Reportedly, with none willing to shift the dates considering rising inflow of party-lovers they attract during the last week of every December, government-appointed single window committee could possibly intervene.
“We will ask both the organizers to avoid overlapping the dates with each other. In a situation allowing the events during the same period, demands additional arrangements. Various government departments on the committee have a major challenge ahead also as the festivals coincide with the peak tourist season. Maintaining law and order, and manning the traffic along the beach belt is not an easy task,” a senior official told Herald.
This time too, sources said the committee headed by Chief Secretary R K Srivastava will request both the organizers to come to a consensus solution, to ease the pressure on local authorities.
Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar, when contacted said the committee will take a decision following a meeting scheduled next month while conceding the clash in dates. “The committee’s report to me, will be forwarded to Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar for final approval to grant permission to host the events. The NOCs are thereafter granted,” he commented.
The festival organizers had in the meanwhile begun selling online tickets since last few months. As per their respective websites Sunburn Goa 2015 and VH1 Supersonic Goa are scheduled to be held from December 27-30.
Percept Ltd of Sunburn and Viacom 18 that partnered with Starlet Event and Entertainment Pvt Ltd to host Supersonic, are often locked in the same battle. The government, left with no alternative, grants last minute approvals to hold the entertainment shows on the same dates.
