The Supreme Court on Friday said it would continue to monitor the investigation into the alleged leak of the NEET-UG 2026 question paper, emphasizing that accountability must be fixed to prevent similar incidents in the future.
A bench comprising Justice P.S. Narasimha and Justice Alok Aradhe made the observation while hearing a batch of petitions filed by various stakeholders seeking reforms in the conduct of the national medical entrance examination.

“The real problem won’t stop till actual accountability arises,” the bench remarked, underscoring the need to identify and hold responsible those involved in the lapses that led to the controversy surrounding the examination.
NEET-UG serves as the gateway for admission to undergraduate medical courses across the country and is taken annually by lakhs of aspiring students.
The court said it would keep a close watch on the progress of the investigation for some time before taking further steps. During the hearing, petitioners also suggested a range of corrective measures aimed at strengthening the examination process and preventing future breaches.
Among the proposals placed before the court was a recommendation to shift NEET-UG to a fully computer-based testing format, a move that supporters argue could enhance security and reduce the risk of question paper leaks.
The matter remains under the Supreme Court’s consideration as investigations into the alleged paper leak continue.
