Surendra makes garbage and St Inez creek his priority

The Congress candidate has just been announced setting the stage for an almost straight fight in Panjim between the Congress and the BJP. Herald spoke to Panjim Mayor Surendra Furtado after his nomination as the Congress candidate

Herald: How do you feel on being selected as the Congress candidate for the Panjim by-poll?
Furtado: I am extremely happy and thankful to ‘Soniaji’ (UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi), ‘Rahulji’ (Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi) and the PAC meeting who backed my candidature. I will not let them down. I will also see to it that I meet Babush (St Cruz MLA Atanasio Monserrate) and request him as well as my fellow corporators for their support.
Herald: Have you planned your campaign strategy?
Furtado: I have already been on the job for a month now. Now I will begin my house-to-house campaigning. I am working on the by-poll manifesto. It will be released soon. The people of Panjim know me very well since I have been working for social causes for the past 25 years. I have also fulfilled the wishes of some people and I expect they will vote for me. I will also request the people to register their names for campaigning and booth committee.
Herald: What will be on your agenda for the constituency?
Furtado: Whatever is incomplete, will be completed. I like doing work. Garbage and St Inez creek will be my priority. It will be an entirely holistic plan.
