The process of consultations to evolve a consensus candidate for the post of Cuncolim Municipal Chairperson has begun.
Cuncolim MLA and Urban Development Minister, Joaquim Alemao had a meeting with the Chairperson Devendra Desai and vice-Chairperson Landry Mascarenhas on Thursday.
Sources in the know said the Urban Development Minister has worked out a solution to the claims by the councilors-elect to the post of Chairperson by rotating the post amongst the top aspirants.
While the details of the meeting between Alemao, Devendra and Landry were not known, sources in the know said the Urban Development Minister is inclined towards the continuance of Devendra as the Chairperson and Landry the Vice-Chairperson given this being the election year.
It is learnt that while Devendra might occupy the post for a period of two years, he would pave way for Landry to take over the reigns for the next two years. The balance term of one year will be shared amongst the remaining claimants, sources said.
Landry and his supporters had laid a strong claim for the coveted post which has been taken note of the by the Urban Development Minister.
When contacted, Alemao said the process of consultations has begun and the formal meeting of the councilors-elect will take place later this week. He said the councilors-elect has called on him after their election victories and has extended their cooperation in the election of the new Civic Chief.
Sources in the know said there are many contenders amongst the councilors-elect for the post of vice-Chairperson and the claims will be resolved via rotation of the chair amongst the aspirants.
