Teachers eligible for transfer after 5 years

PANJIM: Teachers who have worked for five years in any school can apply for a transfer, an Education Department transfer circular says. However, this is on a voluntary basis and only if “anybody is interested” according to Department officials.
According to government data, there are 1227 primary schools (I-IV); 444 middle schools (V-VII) and 380 secondary level schools (V-X/VIII-X).
About 3678 teachers of a total of 4041 at primary level are females comprising 91.02 per cent.
At the middle level there are 1846 female teachers out of a total of 2545 which constitutes 72.48 per cent and at the secondary level the number of female teachers is 1941 out of a total of 3104 which works out to 62.53 per cent of total teachers.
The average population served by a primary school in Goa is 1188; middle school 3283 and secondary school 3836. However, higher secondary schools cater to an average of 16950.
The teacher-pupil ratio at primary level is 1:26, middle level is 1:32 and at secondary level it is 1:20. At higher secondary level the ratio is 1:21.
Meanwhile, in another circular the Department has said that the government has decided that no schools will admit students in class X directly and students admitted in Std IX will continue their studies in the same school in class IX and X, arguing that “this will facilitate the students to perform better in the same school with the help and support of the teachers and parents with whom he/she is more familiar.”
The circular states that it has been decided that there will be no new admission in class X and it directs all government aided/unaided schools not to issue transfer certificate or leaving certificates to students after their IX Std examination “as there will be no admission in Std X for such students”.
