PANJIM: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has delayed the date of final publication of electoral rolls in Goa from January 4 to January 18 as it has encountered a technical fault in the release of data.
“The Election Commission of India has rescheduled the publication of the Electoral Rolls of Special Summary Revision with reference to January 1, 2019 as qualifying date for Goa State to January 18 instead of January 4,” the Chief Electoral Office (CEO) said on Friday.
The CEO had launched a special summary revision of the photo electoral roll with January 1, 2019 as cutoff date from September 1, last year. The draft roll was kept open for public scrutiny till October 31, 2018.
Sources revealed to Herald that the delay in publication of electoral rolls is on account of technical fault.
“The software developer has encountered some problem due to which data cannot be converted into PDF files,” sources said.
As per the last updated photo electoral rolls, published in January 2018, the total voter population is 11,19,777 that include 5,69,885 female voters and 5,49,893 male.
The by-elections for Shiroda and Mandrem assembly constituencies are likely to be in February, followed by Lok Sabha polls in April-May.
