Teenager crushed to death at Fatorda, another seriously hurt

MARGAO: A 15-year-old boy Mubarak Tamburi was crushed to death, while 14-year-old Gopi Mohanti sustained grievous injuries after the duo was knocked down by a mini-truck carrying cement bricks at Fatorda on Tuesday noon.

The incident triggered outrage with local residents demanding a complete shutdown of the adjoining scrap yard.
Both the deceased and injured, who are believed to students of Std VIII were heading home when the truck knocked them down after the driver lost control of the vehicle on a speed breaker at Ambaji, crushing Mubarak under the wheels. Both hail from Karnataka and are residents of Chandrawaddo-Fatorda.
Margao PI Sudesh Naik said the body of the deceased has been preserved at Hospicio mortuary, while the injured has been shifted to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.
The incident triggered outrage with local residents blaming the scrap yard for the accident. 
Camilo Barretto said that residents of Fatorda had in 2011 demanded the shifting of the scrap yard after a blast had claimed the life of one person, but in vain. 
“The scrap yard adjoining the road causing inconveniences to the road users and should be immediately shifted”, Barretto demanded. 
While warning the district authorities Barretto stated that residents will be forced to come on the streets if the scrap yards are not shifted to the trade zones.
