CALANGUTE: Tension prevailed at Calangute market on Wednesday following reported moves by Calangute Panchayat to re-commence the bus bay work at Calangute.
Following rumours of re-commencement of the work at the site, the Calangute Police teams manned two different points in the market area to prevent any untoward incident. A police control van was stationed at Calangute market area, while police personnel kept a strict vigil along the stretch.
When contacted Calangute MLA Michael Lobo over possible re-commencement of bus bay work, he was unperturbed, while Joseph Sequeira expressed the desire of the Calangute Panchayat to re-commence the work soon.
It may be recalled that the construction of bus bay at Calangute market by Calangute Panchayat had led to a heated public spat between Lobo and Sequeira, leading to unsavoury relationship between the two leaders. The deputy collector was forced to intervene and impose Section 144 due to the fallout of public spat which was extended up to December 1.
