CANACONA: Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar on Sunday found himself at the thick of the building collapse saga, as media questioned him over the legality of his residential flat, after Tawadkar informed that contractor, builder and all related to the construction activity of Bharat Developers had disappeared and are absconding.
In fact, Tawadkar gave a clean chit to the builders saying there were no complaints from the public against the project’s alleged illegalities, when a reporter asked why no action has been taken against the builders when there were complaints about hill-cutting and filling of low-lying areas.
“Every authority like municipality, TCP will be taken to task for giving permissions without verifying the facts and not keeping the construction activities under its surveillance, which could have averted the mishap,” said Tawadkar.
When media person asked Tawadkar that since his residence and office is located in the complex, he must know them personally and about their whereabouts, Tawadkar replied: “Yes, I know them, but since last night police are on lookout for them and have found their houses locked. Two are staying locally and one is perhaps putting up in Mumbai.”
When asked whether look out notice will be issued, he said police are on their job.
When Tawadkar was further quizzed by media persons whether he purchased the flat legally and paid the full amount or is there something amiss in the deal, he shot back saying: “I had purchased the flat by paying in full and I have papers to support that. No, I had not received it out of any favours.”
Construction files seized

MARGAO: The Chief Town Planner and the Director of Municipal Administration (dma) has seized construction files of controversial Ruby Realtors in the wake of the building collapse at Canacona.
Teams from the CTP and the DMA descended at Canaonca on Sunday morning and seized the files for scrutiny and verification.
Chief Town Planner S T Puttaraju told Herald this evening the TCP team has seized around 10 files pertaining to the project under construction which collapsed on Sunday.;
“We will scrutinise each of the 10 files and verify about discrepancies, if any. It should take minimum two days to complete the scrutiny and verification,” Puttaraju said.
Meanwhile, sources that the DMA team has also seized files in respect of the construction project on Sunday. A team constituted by the DMA had descended in Canacona to take into custody all the files relating to the project.
“Appropriate action will follow in due course of time after scrutiny and verification of the files”, informed an official in the know in the DMA’s office.
