MARGAO: Konkan Railway authorities were caught on the wrong foot after a miscreant robbed a Kolkata-based family of their valuables right under a CCTV camera at the Margao railway station on Tuesday morning.
Realisation later dawned on the family that the CCTV camera was not functioning at the time of the incident, scuttling all investigations into the case. That’s not all. The family has complained that the authorities at the station were not even ready to accept their complaint and their plea to show them the CCTV footage was also turned down for want of a written complaint.
The robbery incident occurred at around 7 am when the family was waiting for the arrival of the Amravati Express to turn back home after a tour to Mumbai and Goa. The family had spent the night at the railway station to catch the early morning Amravati Express, only to be told in the morning that the train is delayed by a few hours. “I had left our bag with cash, mobiles and ATM and credit cards with my 78-year old father-in-law before going to the counter to inquire about the train. During my absence, a lone miscreant snatched the bag from my father-in-law and made good his escape after diverting his attention by pointing to currency notes on the floor. We have now been told that the overhead CCTV camera was not functioning at the time of the incident”, informed a female member of the group.
