PONDA: People from Ponda and friends and family of the late Vijaya Naik, the wife of Ayush Minister Shripad Naik are still reeling with the shock of all that has happened in the last few days. Vijaya, who is fondly remembered by one and all, died after suffering injuries in the accident that occurred in a village in Karnataka’s Uttara Kannada district. Naik, the North Goa MP who also suffered injuries in the accident that also saw his close aide and personal secretary pass away, is still receiving treatment at Goa Medical College and thus couldn’t attend the final rites of his wife.

Thousands from across Goa attended the funeral of Vijaya. The final rites were performed at Adpoi crematorium. Her elder Son Siddesh Naik lit the pyre.
Chief minister Pramod Sawant paid tributes and was also present till the final rites. “She was a very kind hearted person and a loving personality. My thoughts and prayers are with the family in this hour of grief,”
Various other senior politicians from various parties including ministers were present and paid their tributes as well. These included Deputy CMs Chandrakant Kavlekar and Manohar Ajgaonkar; Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar; Ministers Govind Gaude, Deepak Pausksar, Filipe Neri Rodrigues, Michael Lobo and Milind Naik; Goa Forward Party President Vijai Sardesai and leaders Akbar Mulla, Durgadas Kamat and former Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) Chairperson Venkatesh Naik; Congress Goa President Girish Chodankar and leader Ramakant Khalap; MLAs Ravi Naik, Joshua D’Souza, Francisco Silveira; BJP Goa President Sadanand Tanavade and leaders Damu Naik Naredra Sawaikar; MGP leaders Mithil Dhavalikar, Jyothi Dhavlikar ( wife of MGP MLA Sudin Dhavalikar; PMC Chairperson Vishwanath Dalvi; former RSS Leader Subash Velingkar amongst others.
