VASCO: Thousands of revellers filled the streets of Vasco on Monday to witness the colourful Carnival float parade. The parade was flagged off near St Andrew’s Church Square and went through the Swatantra Path. After the float parade, there was a performance by Bhushka and Jhoney B Gud along with the band ‘Square Heads’, followed by a dance group.
At least 62 floats in different categories, including clubs and institution (17), traditional (8), clown and jokers (16), fun and junk car (9), family and sponsors (12 floats) took part in the parade.
The themes included old versus new, saving wildlife, Goa turning out into concrete jungle, culture and tradition, save tigers, butterfly garden, angry dragons, ongoing crises faced by bars and restaurants, pollution control, Golden Goa, coconut, demonetization. The Navy too took part in the parade.
As part of celebrations, the Vasco carnival committee also organised various events in the internal parts of Vasco to spread the message of Carnival.
