Three Arrested in Separate Gambling Raids Across Panjim, Porvorim, and Colvale

PANJIM: Three individuals were arrested in separate gambling raids in Panjim, Porvorim, and Colvale.

In the first raid, which took place on Tuesday night at the Tinto, Nerul market, the accused, Parana Rikate, 24, from Betim, was caught red-handed while accepting gambling bets from members of the public in an open space and issuing slips with numerical figures. The police Rs 2,360 from his possession.

In another raid, conducted near Shantadurga Garage in Madel, Thivim, the accused, Rupesh Naik, aged 45 years from Thivim, Bardez, was apprehended while accepting money from the public in a game of chance, commonly known as the “number game,” in an open public place. The police seized Rs 1,810 in different denominations, along with other gambling paraphernalia.

In the third raid, carried out by the Panjim police at Taleigao Bandh, the accused, Laxman Kumatagi, 28 from Taleigao, was caught red-handed while accepting bets on numerical figures from the public. The police seized Rs 1,130 in different denominations, as well as other gambling items, from his possession.

All three individuals have been arrested and charged under the Prevention of Public Gambling Act.
