According to reports, Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) lodged a complaint against four vendors including Ponda market vendors leader Kishore Mamlekar for illegally demolishing the old wall of a dismantled shop situated in Ponda market on Monday night.
Acting on the complaint, Ponda police arrested Mamlekar, Narendra Parab and Upendra Prajapati, who were later released on bail. Police also attached the JCB which was involved in the activities.
It may be recalled that in 2009, PMC started market complex work and all the vendors from old market shed were shifted to new shed. However, some four vendors were reluctant to leave their shops in one old shed and had approached the court. The project was completed in December 2011 and after completion of new market complex, these vendors compromised with PMC and were allotted space in new market complex last year.
Later, PMC demolished their shops in the old shed to clear the setback for new market complex. However, PMC kept one wall as it was located at the entrance to the market. On August 23 this year, some person demolished its part. The agitated vendors complained to police and also resorted to road blockade agitation. Later, the police cleared the way.
The remaining part of the wall was demolished on Monday night and PMC lodged complaint against the Ponda vendors claiming that it was an attempt to break pipeline and toilet located in the market. Ponda vendors said the passage to the market was narrow and hence the wall was demolished to facilitate market visitors.
