PANJIM: Three male tourists from Karnataka, aged between 21 and 24 were rescued from the rough waters of Calangute beach on Friday by Drishti lifeguards.
Despite being warned not to venture into the sea, all three youth went swimming and were soon caught in a strong oncoming wave and dragged deeper into the sea, Drishti said.
“On witnessing the incident lifeguard Sarvesh Veluskar rushed to the spot. Lifeguards Vithal Chorlekar and Vinod Salelkar also rushed to assist in the rescue,” a statement issued by the lifesaving agency, states.
“All three were safely secured and brought back to the shore. The vitals of the three victims were checked and since all was found to be normal they were released immediately,” it added.
Drishti Lifesaving had issued a monsoon advisory cautioning visitors not to venture into the sea during the monsoon months. Red flags have been posted across all beaches under Drishti’s surveillance indicating that these are strictly non-swim zones.
Through June, 14 rescue incidents were recorded and reported. Of 14 individuals rescued all were Indian nationals.
