PANJIM/MARGAO/PONDA: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that light rain/thundershower is very likely to occur at a few places over North and South Goa districts of the State on April 9 while the weather is very likely to be dry over the State on subsequent three days.
“Rain/thundershower occurred at many places over Goa. There was no large change in maximum temperatures and they were normal over North Goa District & South Goa District of the State. The highest maximum temperature of 34 degrees Celsius was recorded at Mormugao,” reads the weather report
The report further says that light rain/thundershower is very likely to occur at a few places over north Goa & south Goa districts of the State on April 8 and at isolated places on April 9. Weather is very likely to be dry over north Goa & south Goa districts of the State on subsequent three days.
Meanwhile, Goa witnessed slight rains and thundershowers on the wee hours of Sunday with the MET officials attributing it due to the formation of cumulonimbus clouds over the region.
On Sunday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 34 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature was recorded at 24 degrees Celsius.
Residents of Colva were taken by surprise by a heavy shower of rains this morning for about half an hour.
Worst affected were the occupants of the traditional old houses whose roofs were open as the tiles were being turned which is a normal practice undertaken in the summer. Their furniture became totally wet along with clothes and some had even their provisions destroyed in the rains.
While neighbouring Margao experienced a drizzle all over Salcete the sky appeared overcast and gloomy or what is called in local terms as dhumat. Locals have been predicting rainfall for the last two days as it had become very warm suddenly.
Meanwhile, heavy showers accompanied by lightning and thunder on Sunday evening brought relief to the residents of Ponda from the sweltering summer heat.
Over two hours of heavy rain which subsided after 6.30 pm lowered greatly the temperature in the temple town.
However, due to the impact of heavy rains, a speeding truck proceeding towards Usgao from Kandepar went out of control and dashed another truck proceeding ahead of it. As a result, the impacted truck ran over the railing of the bridge. Luckily, drivers of both the trucks escaped simple injuries.
