PONDA: The Ponda Block Congress Committee (PBCC) on Sunday declared support to the candidates contesting the Ponda Municipal Council elections under “Ponda Citizens Progressive Front” led by Raguveer Desai.
The declaration of support was made at a meeting of PBCC held at Shigmostav committee hall in Ponda.
Congress Block President John Fernandis said that they were hoping to win 13 of total 15 wards and that they have given opportunity to fresh faces, although three of the 15 candidates are former councillors, namely, Kishore Naik, Lalan Naik and Diksha Naik.
Ashok Naik said since the sitting council failed to bring in development works for Ponda in past five years, Congress was sure to win the election. Because, he said, the people know that only the Congress can bring in development work for Ponda.
When questions how would the Congress win 13 wards, when the party currently has only one councillor in PMC, he said, “This time MLA Ravi Naik is active in the PMC election campaign whereas in 2013 he did not take part in PMC election resulting in the election only one Congress backed councillor. But now, being the local MLA, Ravi is active and will put all efforts to take over PMC.”
