To a new life

The beginning of New Year is a good time to review the last year- to know where we’ve wronged and how the changes we made in the past are affecting us today. All of us have walked on a rocky road in our life. If we make a commitment to improve at least one aspect of our personality this year we will be on our way to the kind of life we really want. When we make New Year resolutions and abide by them, we make healthier choices and live a better life. As we have stepped into the New Year 2012, we must dwell on the cold, the dark and what was lost in the past year. Depending upon our state of mind, the New Year will shine with possibility and promise or loom with doubts and anxiety. It shows us light and darkness, happiness and sadness. Many people seize the opportunities that come their way to help them gain greater joy, and happiness in the New Year.
As we are step to the New Year with new hopes, we must live life to the fullest – be happy and make others happy.
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” This quote by Mark Twain always inspires me. – We may find that the passing year has fulfilled some of our dreams of aspirations. This year some people may find themselves in a better position than the previous year; some may have experienced pain and heartbreak. However, life has to be endured in spite of everything. The good point is that through all our experiences, we have learnt from our mistakes and will not repeat them, thus making us a stronger and better person able to withstand the challenges. We have the opportunity to forget past failures and mistakes and begin anew.
At times we spend sleepless nights wondering and worrying about our future. Any kind of risk scares most of us. Unfortunately, there are no flawless barometers of future happiness. However, not knowing what the future holds is advantageos. Too much foresight can be disadvantageous. An experienced cyclist stated, “It is easier to ride a bicycle uphill at night than during the daylight. After dark, the cyclist can only see a few feet in front of him — his headlight giving him the illusion that the road is almost level. In this way, he feels he can go on a few more feet — and soon, he is up and over the crest. In daylight, the entire hill is revealed and seems so steep that his courage fails.” Hence, if we imagine any great task as a whole, it appears beyond our accomplishment. But when it is broken down into small segments, it can be accomplished. By living one day at a time, we avoid discouragement and will ultimately achieve our ambitions as God has allowed each one of us 365 days to accomplish great things. By living our lives one day at a time, and with the Lord’s help, we can be wonderfully victorious.
Albert Einstein once told his son. “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.” With our unwavering faith in the Lord, we can keep moving ahead, even through painful and trying circumstances.
