PANJIM: Tourism, the hen that lays the golden egg, has been till date given step motherly treatment by the State authorities. Though successive governments have been claiming they were looking at infrastructure, one is greeted by narrow roads and dearth of space for parking on visits to some of the beaches (including hotspots like Baga and Benaulim).
Garbage too continues to be a problem even as ambitious projects like finalizing a consultant for the master plan ~ a key initiative of this present government ~ or even supervising the removal of the temporary structures at the official end of the season.
Now the government has constituted a State Level Marketing and Promotion Committee under the chairmanship of Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar and Nilesh Cabral and MD of the Goa Tourism Development Corporation, Principal Secretary (Tourism), Director of Tourism as Member, and also stakeholders like Ralph D’Souza, Mark Mendes from Anjuna, Ernest Dias from Calangute, Sanjeev Mendes from Margao and Gaurish Dhond from Panjim, as members.
The committee is supposed to finalise calendar of events for the year well in advance, allocate marketing budgets for various promotional and marketing sub-heads, view presentations made by various agencies, decide upon empanelment of various agencies for Goa Tourism and finalize branding plans and marketing strategies for tourism.
