A 34-year-old tourist from Bijapur in Karnataka died after being swept away by strong waves while sitting on rocks along the Ba ga-Arpora coastline on Wednesday morning. The deceased, identified as Ash faq Masali, had reportedly visited Baga beach with a group of friends. According to eyewitnesses and po lice sources, he was sitting on rocks near St Xavier’s Retreat House when a series of powerful waves struck the area and swept him into the sea. A video recorded by another tour ist, which later went viral on social media, captured the moments leading up to the tragedy. The footage pur portedly shows Masali standing and sitting on the rocks close to the water despite rough sea conditions before he was dragged away by the waves.
A female companion who was present at the scene told authorities that Masali had allegedly consumed alcohol before the incident. She said she had repeatedly warned him against venturing onto the rocks because of the turbulent sea, but he ignored her advice. Following the incident, his friends immediately alerted the authorities, triggering a search operation involv ing rescue personnel. After several hours of search efforts, Masali’s body was found washed ashore on Baga beach. The Calangute Police have registered a case of unnatural death and are conducting further investigations into the incident.
