MARGAO: The Margao traffic cell commenced a drive to seize and subsequently auction abandoned vehicles that have been creating a nuisance for pedestrians, tourists, and residents and obstructing the free flow of traffic.
Police Inspector Sanjay Dalvi from the Margao Traffic Cell reported that there are over 30 abandoned vehicles on various roads within the jurisdiction of Margao, Fatorda, and Maina-Curtorim police. During the drive conducted on Sunday, ten such abandoned vehicles were seized. Dalvi mentioned that some vehicle owners voluntarily removed their abandoned vehicles from the roads.

The Deputy Superintendent of Police, Traffic South-Goa, had previously submitted a list of abandoned and unclaimed vehicles occupying prime parking space to the district magistrate.
As a result, Asvin Chandru, District Magistrate for South Goa had called upon all interested parties to submit their claims along with documentary evidence of vehicles parked on the streets for extended periods of time. He had set a six-month deadline, following which the vehicles were to be auctioned by the government.
