PANJIM: In what could be further embarrassment for sub divisional police officer Deu Benaulikar, his senior bosses have reportedly decided not to post him in any subdivisions until he comes clean on alleged fudging of his date of birth in service records.
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) was informed a week ago that Goa Police decided withdrawing the officer’s powers till the Vigilance department submits the inquiry report.
Sources in the know told Herald that a panel of names of eligible officers was submitted to replace Benaulikar, who is currently holding the charge of Vasco subdivision.
Deu Benaulikar is accused of using fake birth certificate to join the force as police sub inspector, in 1981.
Activist Sudip Tamankar has challenged the officer’s date of birth alleging that there was manipulation of four years.
“The minimum age to join post of PSI in police department was 25 years, but Benaulikar exceeded his ‘real age’ by four years. Information procured under Right to Information (RTI) Act from school and college where Deu studied, revealed his birth date as February 8, 1952. But, the ‘fake’ certificate mentions his birth date as February 4, 1956,” Tamankar had said.
The High Court is presently hearing the matter. For now, the department is awaiting a reply from the CEO to take a final decision as the election is fast approaching.
