Bankrupt Lanta-Tur Voyage leaves 504 Russians stranded at Dabolim

PANJIM:  Around 504 Russian tourists are stranded at the Dabolim international airport after Russia’s largest tour operator suffered a massive loss due to suspension of operations.

Lanta-Tur Voyage has announced stoppage of the operations after the company suffered financial collapse and is now reportedly bankrupt.

“The tourists are waiting to fly back home but the flight services have been stopped as no payments are made to them,” an airport official told Herald.

It is also learnt that the contract with local service providers would not be honoured because of the financial collapse.

While the current guests will now have to make temporary arrangements, many other tourists are also hauled up in various hotels as the travel company was supposed to pay their bills.

Representative of the Russian Consulate in Goa, Vikram Varma said assistance would be provided to the stranded tourists immediately.

“We have been informed that more than 500 Russian tourists in Goa would need assistance. All possible steps are being taken to assist them,” Varma told Herald.

The problems will be to those tourists whose visas are due to expire shortly.

“Special attention will be given to those whose visas are expiring before the travel arrangements can be made in the next few days,” he assured.
