Truth has prevailed: Parrikar

Opposition Leader Manohar Parrikar today expressed satisfaction after being absolved of major charges by the Comptroller Auditor General (CAG) over the financial irregularities in creating infrastructure for IFFI 2004.
“What was right has been proved,” a relieved Parrikar, whose role as the GSIDC chairman in 2004 is being probed by the CBI, told Herald.
He said he is satisfied as the CAG themselves have dropped the audit paras.
“Major charges or paras have been dropped by the CAG only after getting the proper explanation on their queries,” he stated adding the remarks by CAG were made only because proper information was not provided to them for auditing.
Also, the former chief minister said, before making the erroneous observations the CAG did not convene its committee meeting, in which outsiders are also members.
“When asked they said the government should have convened the meeting,” Parrikar stated.
On what happens to the CBI case against him since major charges have already been dropped, Parrikar said, “I do not know about that, but the CBI had decided to close the case few months ago, however, the Congress government did not want the case to be closed just ahead of elections.”
Hence, he added, they asked Mauvin Godinho to file an FIR at the Panjim Police Station. “If you look at that FIR it is a joke,” he commented. Nonetheless, Parrikar said, “I am happy at last the truth has prevailed.”
