Sitting corporator booked for cheating

Sitting Corporator and former chairman of the Panjim Marketing Committee has been booked for cheating a local businessman to the tune of Rs 1.50 lakh on pretext of transferring a shop in the latter’s name.
Panjim town police registered a case against Uday Madkaikar after Altaf Jamadar of Taleigao on Wednesday lodged a complaint of cheating against him.
In his complaint letter, Altaf stated that Uday had promised him to transfer shop number 88-b in his name which is located in the new CCP market.
“The original owner of the shop Abdullah Sanque signed an agreement with Altaf and Sheikh Mustafa to release the shop in the name of Altaf.
The official formalities lied in the hands of Uday who asked Altaf to pay him Rs 1.50 lakh, which was accomplished,” Deputy Superintendent of Police Deu Benaulikar said.
However, since July 2009, the shop was never transferred in his name which prompted the businessman to file a complaint against him. While Uday is booked under Sections 420 (cheating) and 341 (wrongful restrainment) of the Indian Penal Code, one Raja (full name not known) is booked for breaking the lock of the shop.
Benaulikar said that the case probe is at preliminary stage.
