In a major break through in the recent da coity case that sent shock waves across Mapusa and the State, police on Tuesday announced the arrest of two Bangladeshi nationals from Bengaluru. The duo is believed to have conspired with the main accused in volved in the violent home invasion at the Ghanekar residence in the upscale Ga neshpuri locality. The arrested individuals have been identified as Raju B (27) and Safikul Amir (37), both residents of Ben galuru and originally from Bangladesh.
Mapusa Po lice confirmed that the duo was apprehended follow ing sustained investigation and intelligence gathering through both technical and human sources. “During the investigation into Mapusa Police Station Crime No 133/2025 under Sections 331(3), 115(2), 351(3), 126(2), 310(2), 61(2), 111 read with Sec tion 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, we found that Raju B and Safi kul Amir were closely as sociated with the main ac cused. Evidence on record shows that they conspired with the six individuals who executed the crime.

Accordingly, both were placed under arrest on Tuesday evening,” said Rahul Gupta, SP, North Goa. The dacoity took place in the early hours of October 7, between 3 am and 5 am, when a group of five to sev en masked men, armed with knives and iron rods, force fully entered the Ghanekar household by cutting open a window grill. The residence, located in the densely pop ulated Ganeshpuri area, is home to a well-known doc tor and his family. According to police re ports, the intruders tied up four family members using bedsheets and a sari, and gagged them with pil low covers. In a chilling detail, the gang reportedly forced Dr Mahendra Kamat Ghanekar’s elderly mother to prepare tea for them af ter they helped themselves to food found in the house.
The assailants fled the scene with valuables, in cluding cash and gold worth approximately Rs 35 lakh, four mobile phones, and the family’s car. The vehicle was later found abandoned un der the Mandovi bridge in Panjim. Following the incident, multiple suspects were de tained in Bengaluru. While some were released after interrogation, investigators continued pursuing leads, which ultimately led to the arrests of Raju and Amir. The case has sparked widespread concern in Ga neshpuri, a neighbourhood known for housing several doctors and professionals. Parallels are being drawn to the shocking dacoity at the Dempo household some time ago — a case that re mains unsolved. Since the incident, Mapusa Police have stepped up patrolling and surveillance in the area.
