PANJIM: The Election Commission has warned two officials attached to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s office directing them to withdraw the content from their ‘Facebook’ pages which campaigns for BJP, thus violating the election code of conduct.
Congress on March 14 had complaint against Joint secretary to Chief Minister Siddharth Kuncalikar and special assistant to Chief Minister Giriraj Pai Vernekar of campaigning for BJP ahead of Lok Sabha polls through social networking site, despite being government servants.
“It is ordered that any propaganda which falls within the ambit of model code of conduct propagated via Facebook and other social media shall be removed forthwith and the respondent are directed to desist from involving themselves in any such activities,” the EC said, in its order issued to both the officials.
The EC which took cognizance of the complaint has directed that “all the content involving political propaganda should be removed from the social media page of these two officers working in the office of the CM”.
Official attached to Chief Electoral Office (CEO) said that both the officials have already deleted the content from the ‘Facebook’ account, soon after the complaint. The information was provided to us by Chief Secretary, who was served the notice by EC, official said.
