MARGAO: Is Margao heading towards two Shigmo festivals this year ~ one led by ex-Chief Minister Digambar Kamat and the other by BJP leader Damu Naik.

Two days after the Damu Naik-led Madgao Shigmotsav Samiti re-elected him as its president to celebrate Shigmo festivities in the city, the Digambar Kamat-led Samiti has convened the 26th annual general body meeting of the Madgao Shigmotsav Samiti at the Margao Municipal Council on February 28. Besides Digambar Kamat, the meeting will be attended by MMC Chairperson and ex-officio chairman of the samiti, Arthur D’Silva.

Samiti Secretary Yatin Borkar said the Samiti led by Kamat has already submitted its claim to the Director of Tourism, saying their Samiti is the only registered panel. Borkar further said the Samiti will elect the new Executive Committee for the year 2013-14, while general secretary Girish Chodankar will present the annual report.

“We have staked our claim to organize the festivities. We will chalk out our future course of action on February 28,” he said.
