VASCO: Mormugao Municipal Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes on Tuesday issued show-cause notices to two of its drivers who were caught stealing fuel from a municipal garbage compactor which was parked at the garbage dump site in Headland Sada.

The show-cause notice stated that the issue was raised during the council meeting on April 2 by one councillor who produced photos to prove his allegation. The notice added that the council had taken strong note of the issue and had directed Fernandes to conduct a proper inquiry and to submit a report to the council within 15 days.

In this regard, Fernandes has directed both drivers to show cause within 48 hours as to why disciplinary action should not be initiated against them.

It may be recalled that during a meeting to elect the MMC vice chairperson on Tuesday, Fernandes had informed the council about the fuel theft by the municipal drivers and had sought the council’s decision to initiate necessary action against the accused.
