VASCO: Vasco police on Tuesday arrested a man for allegedly raping his thirteen-year-old niece on several occasions and threatening her with dire consequences.
According to police, the victim’s mother died when she was two years old. Her father dropped her off at a relative’s house in Mumbai and never returned. An aunt brought her to Vasco, where they started living with the accused, who was the girl’s maternal uncle. The man had three children, aged between 22-27 years, while his wife was working abroad.
Police officials said, “As per the girl’s statement, her aunt got an employment opportunity abroad. Before leaving for Dubai, she admitted the victim in a boarding school. The accused used to rape the girl whenever she came down for holidays.”
“This forceful sexual exploitation started last year. She recently narrated the incident to a friend, who then told the boarding school’s headmistress. The headmistress took the help of an NGO and reported the case to the police,” he added.
The accused has been remanded to five-day police custody. Offences were registered against him under section 376 and 506(11) of IPC, Section 8 (2) of Goa Children’s Act, Section 4, 8, and12 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
