MAPUSA: Goa Municipal Employees Association has demanded regularisation of daily wage workers working for the municipality since last 10-12 years.
The demand was put forward to Municipal Chairman Ryan Braganza by a delegation headed President of Goa Municipal Employee Association by Keshav Prabhu. It included President of Mapusa Municipal Employee Association Dnyaneshwar Parsekar, Central Committee member Tayo Gadekar, Nazira Sayyad and others.
At the meeting, Keshav Prabhu informed Braganza that twice he had meetings with the chief minister over regularisation of daily wage workers. He said that he had requested the chief minister to regularise those working for more than 10 years immediately; and after six months to regularise workers who have completed eight years of service. He informed that he had also requested the chief minister to regularize the workers who have completed five years and chief minister had assured him to do so.
Prabhu brought to the attention of the chairman that the municipality is employing a large number of daily wage workers and that around 275 of them have completed more than 10-12 years of service.
Delegation also requested the municipality to fill up the 24 posts which are vacant.
Stating that arrears of Seventh Pay have not been paid to the municipal employees, the delegation requested the delegation to clear the same as soon as possible.
Prabhu suggested that if paying salaries of the workers is a financial burden for the municipality, then, it should request the government to pay 40 percent of the salary amount as subsidy.
