Unknown persons break into flat, decamp with cash, gold worth Rs 5 lakh

PONDA: A series of thefts are occurring in Ponda town, as yet another flat was targeted by thieves Tuesday night. The front door of a flat at Sairaj Apartment in Haveli-Curti, was broken and stole cash and jewelry worth Rs 5 lakh was looted.

An elderly person from the house was hospitalized at Goa Medical College and hence the other family members were attending to him. 

Taking this opportunity, the thieves entered by breaking the lock of the front door and broke the inner cupboard and stole Rs 2 lakh along with jewelry worth Rs3 lakh. 

This theft came to light after the family members returned home from the hospital on Wednesday.  

Mumtaz Khan, who lives in the flat, filed a complaint with the Ponda police in this case. After filing a complaint, the Ponda police did a panchanama and launched a manhunt for the thieves.  

Meanwhile, the theft in Durgabhat area which occurred 15 days ago had a similar modus operandi to the theft in Curti and the suspect seen in the CCTV is also believed to be the same.
