VASCO: Chairman of Shishan Seva Mandal, Vaddem Nagar, and Speaker Rajendra Arlekar on Friday said Vaddem Nagar High School has been elevated to higher secondary school with the introduction of Std XI Arts and Commerce from June.
Addressing a press conference, Arlekar said it was a long-pending demand of the parents of Vaddem Nagar to start higher secondary school.
“As the populace of the area has grown and with the difficulty of getting admissions in other higher secondary schools, the government has paid heed to the request of the parents and allowed to start Arts and Commerce streams and the admissions are open,” informed Arlekar.
“Presently, the school does not have the required infrastructure and we will also start the Science stream in the years to come,” he added.
Arlekar said the school which was started in 1979-80 with Std 8, 9 and 10 slowly progressed by starting Std 5, 6 and 7, followed by other classes.
Arlekar expressed happiness that the demand of the parents was fulfilled at last and said the move would help students pursue further studies in familiar surroundings without going through the hassle of seeking fresh admissions.
