MARGAO: A tussle between the ruling and opposition groups of panch members was witnessed over the issue of furnishing financial documents at the ordinary meeting of the Varca village panchayat on Tuesday.
Three members of the opposition group led by Sharon D’Costa accused the ruling group of trying to hide information. The trio had asked for the meeting to be adjourned. Speaking to media persons, along with Nora Rodrigues and Joao alias Edison Rodrigues, Sharon D’Costa said that they had requested an annual budget and details of the financial aspects of the panchayat.

“Being new members of the panchayat, we wanted to understand all the necessary aspects and then go ahead with the meeting, and hence requested that the meeting be adjourned for some other date. We had not been provided with the documents we asked for,” she said.
Joao Rodrigues said that they questioned the ruling panel regarding the handover proceedings and other issues by the administrator, but they had no answer.
However, Sarpanch Salesiana Fernandes clarified that there was no link between the agenda of the meeting and the issues raised by the opposition panch members. “We don’t want to keep the applications made by the locals on hold, and the adjournment of the meeting would have delayed the process for unnecessary reasons,” said the Sarpanch.
“First of all, the request letter to adjourn the meeting was given to us at 10.45 am, wherein the meeting was fixed for 10.30 am and all three opposition panch members had signed the notice pertaining to the meeting. There were some minor decisions to be taken, regarding monthly accounts for July and August, besides a few others,” she said.
