Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar Demands Removal of Illegal MPA Gate, Questions Closure of Historic Footbridge

Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar has demanded the immediate removal of an illegally installed gate and compound wall by the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA), citing the South Goa Collector’s order dated July 9, 2025. Raising the issue in the Assembly, Salkar expressed concern over the unauthorised construction, which he claims restricts public access.

The MLA also raised serious objections to the closure of an old Portuguese-era footbridge that historically connects Baina to Vasco city, questioning the MPA’s intentions and hinting at an attempt to limit public movement in the area.

“This is a direct violation of public rights. The gate must be removed immediately as per the Collector’s order,” Salkar said, adding that the closure of the footbridge raises suspicions about the MPA’s motives.

In response, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant assured the House that the government will take necessary action and ensure that the Collector’s directives are implemented without delay.
