PANJIM: The Goa government has reportedly promoted the Vasco rape victim and her elder sister, to the next class, considering their case as a special one, as both the girls could not take the examinations because of the trauma in the family.
The victim’s father said that both his daughters have been promoted to the next standard by the State Education department and it has also instructed another school run by Christian missionaries to admit them.
The father said he has decided to shift both his daughters to another school in Vasco. The seven-year-old girl was raped inside the school toilet in Vasco on January 14 this year.
The accused is still at large, while a special investigation team of the police has failed to crack the case. The parents of victim girl had earlier approached Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, a state-government run body, after both girls refused to attend classes.
“It was only after we approached the commission that the education department, through its order dated March 4, 2013, has directed the school to promote both the students without appearing for the exam,” he said.
VASCO REPORTER ADDS: The victim’s father stated that since both his children did not wish to continue their studies in the school where the incident took place and he sought the help of Child Rights Commission, which in turn approached the Education Department.
“The Education Department after going through my request directed the school to promote both my children to the next class and to directly transfer the leaving certificate to the school run by Christian missionaries,” the father told Herald. “Though the children have been promoted to the next class, the school is yet to transfer the leaving certificates to the new school,” he said.
