PANJIM: The Goa Forward Party (GFP) has demanded that the Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel across the State be brought to zero.
The VAT on petrol is currently 27 per cent while on diesel it is 23 per cent. The GFP working President Kiran Kandolkar has said that the government should have the basic decency to help all the Goemkars in their day to day activities and should not burden them with increase in fuel prices.
Pointing out that the global price of oil has been falling because of low demand due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Kandolkar questioned why the government needed to raise VAT on fuel during these challenging times.
“Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant must respect the public and their hardships and immediately bring VAT on petrol and diesel to zero,” he demanded.
