The Velim gram sabha on Sunday witnessed a hot debate the issue of encroachments and illegal structures on the banks of River Sal at the Cutbona Fishing Jetty.
At the meeting held today, members demanded from the panchayat body about the action taken on the illegal structures.
A gram sabha member Hector Colaco sought to know from the Sarpanch why the panchayat is hesitating to initiate action against the structures.
When the Sarpanch replied that most of the establishments were found closed, the gram sabha members drew attention of the Sarpanch that the establishments have been opened now after the commencement of the new fishing season.
The gram sabha members said that since the new fishing season has commenced, the Panchayat should initiate necessary action against the illegal structures after issuing show cause notices.
The gram sabha meeting also deliberated on the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. It was decided to deliberate in detail on the scheme on August 9.
