PANJIM: The Goa Forward Party (GFP) president Vijai Sardesai accused the BJP-led State government of policy paralysis that has completely shaken the State economy.
Sardesai said a symptomatic policy paralysis is currently prevailing in Goa. “Anyone can try to justify but the fact remain is that Goa’s financial position is very weak. There is complete bankruptcy. What we see in Goa today, is total policy paralysis,” he said.
The Fatorda MLA referred to the government’s failure to adapt measures for resource mobilisation and to control revenue expenditure. “What is the point in showing Rs 6000 crore revenue expenditure? The fact is that there is bankruptcy,” he said adding that the debt is accumulating and has been inherited by future generation for no fault of theirs.
He said that government has failed completely to work out the way forward for resumption of the iron ore mining industry, which has been shut since March 2018. He also slammed the government’s delay in allotting beach shacks, even though one month has passed since the tourism season commenced.
To work out a path forward on an economic front, GFP has decided to organise a conclave to bring some renowned economists under one roof to contemplate on a ‘Goa Model of Development’.
“There is a need for academic exercise. As a politician, it becomes our duty that we do our bit. We just cannot oppose. We are a proactive party, not a disruptive party,” Sardesai said.
The conclave is likely to be held in January, 2020. “We will take all the stakeholders including the NGOs, civil society groups into confidence,” he said, while adding that the conclave’s focus will be on three ‘M’s: – Mining, Money and Mhadei.
