Goa Forward Party (GFP) Chief Vijai Sardesai interacted with members of the Goan community at Hounslow House in the United Kingdom, where he stressed the need to empower the Goan diaspora and renewed his support for the demand for dual citizenship.
Addressing the gathering, Sardesai questioned the opposition to dual citizenship for Goans living abroad, saying there was nothing wrong with seeking such a provision for the state’s overseas community.

“We have to empower our Goan diaspora. What is wrong in demanding dual citizenship for our Goan diaspora?” Sardesai said during the interaction.
He also remarked that many Goans had been compelled to seek employment overseas due to limited job opportunities in Goa.
“The government back home couldn’t provide you jobs, due to which Goans are working here,” he told members of the diaspora.
Sardesai’s remarks come amid continuing discussions on the role of the Goan diaspora in the state’s development and the long-standing debate over extending dual citizenship or similar legal provisions to Goans settled abroad.
