Vijai Sardesai Calls for ‘One Road, One Policy’; PWD Assures Single-Window Road-Cutting System

MLA Vijai Sardesai on Tuesday demanded the implementation of a single-window system to regulate road-cutting permissions and called for a “One Road, One Policy” approach to prevent repeated damage to public roads.

Raising the issue, Sardesai said the absence of a unified policy has resulted in frequent and uncoordinated road-cutting by multiple agencies, causing inconvenience to the public and leading to unnecessary expenditure on repairs.

Responding to the demand, the Public Works Department (PWD) Minister assured the House that a unified road-cutting mechanism would be implemented within the next three months. The minister said the proposed system would streamline approvals, ensure better coordination among departments and minimise repeated road excavation.

The assurance was welcomed as a step towards improving infrastructure management and reducing public hardship caused by recurring road-cutting works.
